Born in 1981 in Belfort (France), and navigating since childhood in cultural diversity, languages, and art. Jennifer has always been lucky to be in contact with the beauty and the surrounding wilderness. An intense visual experience that will feed her years later in her artistic expression: the photography.
By the emotion that carries her, Jennifer persists in creating an imaginary, colorful, and reflective world of solitary heroines and emotionally charged landscapes against an insidious moroseness of society. Jennifer Orhélys studied the history of art and cinema, hence her photographic work inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite, and romantic periods of classical painting.
Her photographs explore the universal themes of dreams, fairy tales, mythology, and religion.
In 2016, her work on self-portraiture was recognized and is part of the permanent collection of the Kiyosato Photographic Art Museum (a musèum dedicated to photography in the Kiyosato region of Hokuto City, Japan).
Jennifer Orhélys has been exhibited from New York to Los Angeles and from Berlin to Japan.
Her self-portraits have been featured in several major group exhibitions, such as the Berlin Foto Biennale / Magnum Agency (Palazzo Italia, Berlin), the Louvre Museum (Paris), Times Square (New York), the KD Gallery (International Biennial of Image, Nancy), Novotel Tour Eiffel (Paris), International Photography Week (Riedisheim), The Gallery Artist Corners (Hollywood)…
Jennifer Orhélys is also committed to communicating and showing through her photographs the fragility of nature around us and the importance of preserving it. (In parallel, she reinforces her experience by studies on animal behavior and the degree of their welfare at the University of Edinburgh and in botany of French Universities / National Museum of Natural History.) In this state of spirit, she supports a wildlife rescue center (Center Athenas) in her region Franche Comté that works to care for wild animals, wounded and orphans and reintroduction in their natural habitat.
Her photographs lead him to participate in numerous exhibitions, and her images recognized in several national and international competitions. She regularly collaborates with the French and abroad press.
“Using images is my way of communicating with people. As a photographer interested in nature, society, and beauty. I seek to engage my audience in a continuous and meaningful dialogue on these important topics. As strong and aesthetic as I can do, my photography is never imagery in itself. The eye is a part of the brain with its function of memory and consciousness of the mind. Photography makes it accessible to others; This is how I conceive of my work and my vocation in life. ” T.G.
Jennifer Orhélys will graduate from the University of Arts and Cinema at La Sorbonne-Panthéon, thanks to her photographic work.
